Chief Magistrates Tipped on Social Security
Mr. Richard Byarugaba, the Managing Director NSSF

KAMPALA: Chief Magistrates in all courts gathered at Protea Hotel for a two-day training on Social Security organized by National Social Security Fund (NSSF).

The theme of the training was "Social Security Awareness".

The Registrar Research and Training, H/W Isaac Muwata, who represented the Executive Director of the Judicial Training Institute, Justice Dr Henry Peter Adonyo flagged off the training.

In his welcome remarks, H/W Muwata said the training was expected to enhance the capacity of Chief Magistrates to handle the legal regime governing Social Security in Uganda.

The Deputy Registrar in Charge of Training, H/W Moses Gabriel Angualia, said the training would also empower Chief Magistrates who have jurisdiction to handle these cases.

He added that the training was meant to build closer partnerships, enable recovery of NSSF funds, and improve on savings.

The incoming Registrar of Magistrates Affairs & Data Management, HW Susan Abinyo, commended the organizers of the workshop saying it is relevant to the work of judicial officers.

Mr.Richard Byarugaba, the Managing Director NSSF, who delivered the keynote address noted that without NSSF, only 20 per cent of Ugandans would save voluntarily, meaning many people in Uganda would not be saving if there was no law to force them to save.

Mr. Byarugaba urged the Judicial Officers to speed up the process of handling these cases.

One of the recommendations made at the workshop was hold similar trainings for prosecutors as well.

Some of the facilitators at the training include NSSF Ag. Corporation Secretary, Mr Isaac Ogwang, Senior State Attorney Mr Jonathan Muwaganya and HW Janeva Natukunda.
